IT Support for Hotels & Accommodation in Auckland

It's 8pm. A coach group has just walked in, the lobby's full and the card terminal is spinning. Upstairs, guests are back from dinner and messaging reception because the WiFi won't load a thing.

Mint is the Auckland IT team behind guest WiFi, backup internet and secure payment networks for hotels, motels and accommodation providers. We build WiFi that holds up in the evening rush, keep check-in and payments running when the fibre drops, and make sure guest data and card terminals sit on networks of their own.

Where hotel tech lets you down

We set it up, watch it around the clock and fix it when something goes wrong. Your team gets back to looking after guests.

The 8pm WiFi slump

Your guests all come back at once. They stream, video call home and upload holiday photos. The WiFi crawls, and someone writes "WiFi was useless" in their review.

We plan your guest WiFi around your busiest hour, not an empty Tuesday afternoon. That means enough access points to cover every floor and corridor. We also set fair limits per device, so one guest's movie marathon doesn't slow the whole building.

The internet drops mid check-in

A queue at the desk is stressful enough. Then your fibre drops. Your booking system won't load, the card terminal stalls and guests start sighing.

We add backup 4G/5G internet that switches on by itself the moment your main connection fails. Check-ins carry on. Payments go through. By the time someone at the desk notices anything, it's already resolved.

Guests and staff on the same network

On a lot of hotel setups, a guest's laptop sits on the same network as your front desk PC. If that guest has a virus, it can go looking for your bookings and card data.

We split your network into separate zones. Guests get one. Staff get another. Card terminals get their own. A problem in one zone stays there.

Seasonal staff and shared logins

Summer brings new faces at reception. Often they all share one login, and nobody remembers to change it when people leave.

We give each staff member their own sign-in and switch it off the day they finish. You'll always know who accessed what, and ex-staff can't log back in.

Protecting guest and payment data

Hotels hold a lot of personal information. Names, phone numbers, addresses, sometimes passport details. Here's how we look after the tech side.

  • Privacy Act 2020. This law sets out how New Zealand businesses collect and protect personal information. We make sure only the right people can see guest records, and we encrypt every device we manage so a lost laptop doesn't become a data breach.
  • PCI DSS. This is the security standard for anyone who takes card payments. Keeping your card terminals on their own network handles the biggest part of it, and that's exactly how we set things up.
  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA). A stolen front desk password is far less useful when your phone is the second lock on the door. We switch MFA on for your whole team so a leaked login doesn't become an open invitation.
  • Backups we've actually tested. We back up your files and booking data, then check we can bring them back. A backup nobody's tested isn't really a backup.

More than half of New Zealand small businesses dealt with a cyber threat in the last six months, according to NCSC research. A handful of basics stops most of it. We handle the tech side. The legal obligations stay with you and your advisers.

FAQs

Can you fix our guest WiFi without replacing everything?

Often, yes. We'll start by checking what you've got and where the dead spots are. Sometimes a few extra access points and better settings are all it takes.

What happens to card payments if our internet goes down?

With our backup internet in place, they keep working. Your connection switches to 4G/5G on its own, usually within seconds. When the fibre comes back, it switches back without anyone touching a thing.

Do you work with small motels and B&Bs, or only large hotels?

Both. Most of our clients have between 5 and 100 staff, so a 12-room motel is right in our wheelhouse.

Can you help us stay on the right side of PCI DSS?

Yes, on the technical side. The biggest requirement, keeping card terminals separated from the rest of your network, is exactly how we set things up. Your bank or payment provider owns the compliance sign-off, but we make their checklist much shorter.

Will we be locked into a long contract?

No. Every plan runs month-to-month with one calendar month's notice, so if the property changes hands or your situation changes, you're not stuck.

Can you support accommodation outside Auckland?

Yes. We fix most problems remotely, wherever you are in New Zealand. If something needs hands on site outside Auckland, we send a trusted local contractor.

What's covered in the free IT health check?

It's a 45-minute look at your WiFi, internet, security and devices. You'll get a plain-English rundown of what's working and what needs attention, before your next busy weekend finds the weak spots first.
