IT Support for Accountants & Bookkeepers in Auckland

Four returns due before midnight. A client on hold. And Xero won't load because the office internet just dropped out.

For Auckland accounting and bookkeeping firms, Mint handles the IT, internet and phones, from backup internet that kicks in when the fibre fails, to email filtering that catches invoice fraud before it lands. You get a full IT team behind your practice for a predictable monthly price per user.

Where tax season finds the weak spots

We watch your systems around the clock, sort problems before they reach your desk and pick up the phone when you need a real person. Your team stays focused on the work. We handle everything behind it.

The internet drops in the middle of deadline week

Most of your year runs to fixed dates. GST on the 28th. Provisional tax. The push before 31 March and 7 April. Every one of those days depends on your internet staying up.

When the fibre goes, so does everything in the cloud. Xero, your practice manager, myIR and your email all stop at once. Your team sits waiting while the clock keeps ticking.

We add backup internet over 4G/5G that switches on by itself the moment your main connection fails. Filing keeps going. Most people won't even notice the switch.

A "client" emails new bank details

The email looks right. Same name, same signature, same tone. It asks you to redirect a refund to a new account, or it claims to be from IRD and prompts someone to log in through a link.

Accounting firms are a favourite target. You move money, you hold bank details and you're busy enough to click fast. One wrong click can cost a client thousands, and cost you their trust.

So here's what we put in place. Email filtering catches most fakes before they land. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) means a stolen password alone won't get anyone in. They'd still need the code from your phone. We can also help your team recognise the warning signs, so the odd one that slips through doesn't get paid.

Working late from the kitchen table

Busy season means long nights, and plenty of those happen at home. Someone downloads client files to their personal laptop. Someone else logs in over the café WiFi. Before long, client records are scattered across devices you can't see or control.

We give your team secure access to everything they need from home, on managed devices. If a laptop goes missing, we lock and wipe it remotely. Client data stays where it belongs, and your team can still wrap up that return from wherever they are.

Computers that slow down every single task

A big Excel workbook takes a minute to open. Two screens flicker when someone plugs in. The PC in the corner still runs Windows 10, which stopped getting security updates in October 2025.

None of it feels like a crisis on its own. But across a full team, every day, you lose hours each week. Older machines are also an easy entry point for attackers.

We'll check every machine and tell you straight which ones are worth keeping. Some just need a tidy-up and a faster drive. For the ones that don't, we'll plan replacements before busy season, not in the middle of it.

Looking after your clients' financial data

You hold some of the most sensitive information your clients have. IRD numbers, bank accounts, payroll records, salaries and family trust details. If it leaks, the damage is real, and so is the hit to your reputation.

The Privacy Act 2020 sets out how New Zealand businesses must collect, store and protect personal information. If a breach is likely to cause someone serious harm, you need to notify the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected. The policies are yours to own. We handle the technical side.

Here's what that looks like in a normal week:

  • MFA on every account. Even with a stolen password, a scammer can't get in without the code from your phone. Accounting firm credentials are exactly what attackers are after, this one step stops most of them cold.
  • Access by role. Your graduate sees their own clients. Partners see everything. When someone leaves, we close their accounts the same day, not when someone eventually remembers to ask.
  • Encrypted devices. If a laptop gets taken from a car, the files on it are unreadable. We can also wipe it remotely.
  • Backups we've actually tested. If ransomware hits during March, we can bring your files back. A backup nobody's checked is just a feeling of security.

More than half of New Zealand small businesses dealt with a cyber threat in the last six months, according to NCSC research. For firms with 20 to 49 staff, it's three in four. For accounting practices, the risk is higher: the data you hold makes you a more valuable target. A handful of basics, done properly, stops most of it.

What happens when something breaks in March

Say your practice manager's computer won't start at 8am in deadline week. You call 09 222 0220, and a technician who already knows your setup picks up. On critical issues, we respond in around 15 minutes on average.

We fix 98.2% of issues the first time you contact us, so you're not stuck explaining the same problem to three different people. If hardware needs replacing, we build and prep devices in our own Birkenhead workshop.

No ticket black hole. No offshore helpdesk reading from a script.

Software we support in accounting practices

We look after the tools you use every day, including:

  • Xero, including Xero Practice Manager and Xero Tax
  • MYOB, including MYOB Practice
  • BankLink, including older client files you still need to open
  • Practice Ignition (now Ignition) for proposals and engagement letters
  • Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for email, files and calendars

We also keep your licences tidy, so you're not paying for seats nobody uses. Running a document portal or workpaper tool we haven't listed? Tell us. We'll learn it.

FAQs

What should we do if a client emails us new bank details?

Call the client on a number you already have before paying anything. Never use the number in the email. We can set up email warnings that flag messages from outside your firm or from look-alike addresses.

Can our staff work from home without putting client data at risk?

Yes. We set up secure remote access on managed devices, with MFA on every login. Files stay in your firm's systems, not on personal laptops.

Do you support small bookkeeping practices, or only bigger firms?

Both. Most of our clients have between 5 and 100 staff, and a three-person bookkeeping practice gets the same team and response time as a larger firm.

Do you support accounting firms outside Auckland?

Yes. We fix most problems remotely, anywhere in New Zealand. Our own team handles onsite work across Auckland. Elsewhere, we send a trusted local contractor when hands are needed.

How much does IT support cost for an accounting firm?

Managed IT plans start from $79 + GST per user per month for licensing and security, and $139 with remote support. The exact cost depends on your team size and setup. Our IT cost calculator gives you a rough figure in a couple of minutes.

Are we locked into a contract?

No. Every plan runs month-to-month with one calendar month's notice, so you can see how we handle one busy season before you commit to anything longer.

What do we get from the free IT health check?

A plain-English picture of your internet, devices, email security and backups. It takes about 45 minutes. You'll leave knowing what to fix now and what can wait until after busy season.

Get ahead of the next deadline
