Windows 10 support has ended: what your small business should do about Windows 11

Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. If your business still has Windows 10 computers, they will keep starting up and running your software, but they no longer receive free security updates.

What does end of support mean for your business?

When an operating system reaches the end of its support, the effects build up over time:

• No free security updates, so newly discovered weaknesses stay open and your computers are more exposed to cyber threats
• No Microsoft support, so problems are harder and more expensive to resolve
• New software may not work, especially tools that require Windows 11 to run

What are your options now?

1. Upgrade compatible computers to Windows 11. Many Windows 10 computers can be upgraded in place, usually with minimal disruption.
2. Replace computers that cannot run Windows 11. Older devices often fail the hardware requirements. Replacing them in planned batches spreads the cost.
3. Buy Extended Security Updates as a short-term bridge. Microsoft sells paid Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 to businesses, for up to three years at rising prices. It is a way to buy time for a planned replacement, not a long-term plan. Check Microsoft's current terms before budgeting.
